The Art Gallery
Date: December 2018
Location: Gladstone Hospital
Project Type: Art Gallery Establishment & Curation
The Art Gallery at Gladstone Hospital was officially opened on Friday 14th December 2018 by MP Glenn Butcher, marking the establishment of a dedicated creative space within the hospital.
Established by Katrina Elliott, the gallery was developed to bring art into healthcare environments, recognising the role creativity plays in supporting wellbeing and strengthening connection to community for patients, staff and visitors.
The opening exhibitions reflected this vision, bringing together local artists, schools and community:
Local Artist Gallery – Jean Kane, “Laughter is the best medicine, from the outback to the oceans”
Schools Gallery – Ubobo State School, “What’s that smell”
Artz Hub Gallery – Katrina Elliott, “One Wish”
Over time, the program evolved into two dedicated gallery spaces:
Local Artists Gallery – showcasing rotating exhibitions from local and regional artists
Community Gallery – featuring collaborative projects created with patients, staff and community
Through the success of the Gladstone Hospital galleries, the program expanded to Biloela Hospital in 2019, creating a connected exhibition pathway across regional healthcare settings.
In 2022, this work was further strengthened through the establishment of Cosmos Arts for Health, supporting the ongoing delivery and growth of the gallery program.
Today, the galleries continue to provide welcoming, creative environments that enhance wellbeing while maintaining a strong connection to community.
