This mosaic wall hanging stands as a powerful reminder that when people come together, change is possible. Created using broken tiles and ceramic pieces, the artwork reflects both the reality and the resilience found within our community.

Displayed alongside “Aunty,” the mosaic symbolises the journey of healing. Just as the fragmented pieces have been carefully brought together to form a new whole, the work represents how lives affected by domestic and family violence can begin to rebuild when people reach out for support and connection.

Family, domestic and sexual violence remains a significant health and welfare issue in Australia. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds, but women and children are disproportionately impacted. Indigenous women, young women and pregnant women are particularly at risk.

The Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence in Australia (2018) report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare highlights the scale of the issue within our own communities. While many people associate these challenges with distant places, the reality is that this crisis exists much closer to home, reminding us of the importance of awareness, support and collective action.
